The Yangwang U8 is a luxury off-road vehicle that’s bigger than Texas but 100% Chinese. With a grunty power output of 880 kW and 1280 Nm of torque, delivered via four independent electric motors (one on each wheel), this plug-in hybrid vehicle combines fairly brutal performance with a surprisingly posh interior and a bucket load of luxury goodies.
What blew me away though wasn’t its claimed 0-100 time of 3.6 seconds, or its ability to do tank turns or its four-wheel steering, or even the fact this vehicle can somehow FLOAT ON WATER; I was actually blown away by the luxury and gadgetry inside. I mean, it's got a FRIDGE! 😃
And while it may have a 2 litre, turbocharged combustion engine under its bonnet, its BYD blade battery is 49.05 kWh in capacity, meaning its pure electric range is 124 kilometres (WLTP). That means that for most trips, this Chinese beast won't emit a single gram of carbon.
