【401m】The World’s Shortest Runway Is Here

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport (commonly known as Saba Airport) on the Dutch island of Saba in the Caribbean is known as the commercial airport with the world’s shortest runway, at just 401 meters in length.
This video is a re-edit of footage I shot when I visited Saba Airport in March 2023.

Winair operates scheduled services to and from Saba Airport, with 2–4 round trips per day to Princess Juliana International Airport on Sint Maarten. The aircraft used is the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter. On this day, I also happened to see a chartered Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander operated by SXM Airways.

As of September 2025, the latest airport chart for Saba Airport included the following information:
Airport code: SAB / TNCS
Hours of operation: 10:30 to sunset
Runway designation: RWY 12/30
Runway dimensions: 401 m × 18 m
Runway strip dimensions: 461 m × 60 m
RESA (Runway End Safety Area): none
Runway slope: 2.05° downhill from RWY 12 to RWY 30
LDA (Landing Distance Available): RWY 12 — 349 m; RWY 30 — 355 m
・Operated under VMC (visual meteorological conditions) only
・Use limited to fixed-wing aircraft that meet the airport’s qualification requirements and are authorized by the Dutch government
