When the Boat Failed, a River Hut Saved Our Lives (No Talking)

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

wo men were boating along a wide river of islands and channels when their raft was punctured and deflated. We pulled ashore and found an abandoned hut on the bank. Because the glue for the boat repair needs a long time to cure, we were forced to spend the night.

Before dark we cleared the trash, patched the leaking roof, and built a small waterside terrace/dock from old boards and logs. Inside we made simple beds and a table, set up a small camp stove, and—without a pan—heated a flat river stone to fry the fresh fish we caught. Snakes, spiders, and mosquitoes outside; warm food and safe sleep inside.

In the morning the glue had dried, we inflated the boat, packed our gear, and left the shore carrying several bags of collected trash.
A story of survival, adaptability, river fishing, and a small cleanup that makes the place better.
