How do you make a boring 555 tone generator come to life? Give it some logic gates, a control voltage for frequency modulation, schmitt triggered inverter oscillator companion, and let it wail and warble!

Manipulating the 555 control voltage pin allows nudging of the output frequency. If you tangle up a 555 output with bunch of logic gates and counters, then feed that back to the control voltage pin with a low pass filter, strange things occur.
