Ebike Laws are making Brands PANIC when they Really Don't Need to
UK and EU Electric bike laws state that to be classed as an Ebike, Epac or EAPC, an ebike must not receive electrical assistance above 15.5mph, have a motor classed no higher than 250w and if equipped with a throttle should propel the bike no quicker than 6kph if the rider is not pedalling.
But with many manufacturers producing successful electric bikes that can be 'unlocked' to exceed these numbers and the increasing number of ebike confiscations by police, ebike brands are getting worried that they're getting a bad reputation and may end up having to compensate customers who have lost their electric bikes. But they really don't need to be.
