Colonial rulers called it black magic. For my ancestors, it was survival.

This is the story of the Divine Feminine. In the West, she was erased and forgotten. In India, she was kept alive through scripture, worship, and festivals. And in the Caribbean, she transformed into something new. Durga and Kali became lifelines for indentured Hindus on the plantations, guiding them through pain, displacement, and oppression.

I grew up hearing these stories, but they were never just stories. They were living truths. My father had a vision of building a temple to Maa Durga. My own earliest spiritual experiences are tied to her presence. For me, this film is not only about history or theology. It is about how the Goddess still walks with us, how she carried my family, and how she continues to shape who I am today.

This video asks difficult questions. What happens when the ultimate cosmic power is imagined as female. What happens when that power is attacked, erased, and branded as evil. And what happens when, despite it all, she survives.

The West may have forgotten her, but she never left. In every mandir, every prayer, every grandmother’s hymn, she is still here. She remains what she has always been, both cosmic principle and personal mother.
