The Forgotten Story Behind Downhill's Most ICONIC Rider

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

In over three decades of Downhill World Cup racing, only 12 riders have claimed the Overall title. Loïc Bruni, has four Overall wins (2019, 2021, 2023, 2024) and stands one title away from matching the legendary five-time records of Nico Vouilloz and Aaron Gwin.

Downhill’s early years in were fast, raw, experimental, and far less polished. Yet, Bruni sees his fellow Frenchman, Vouilloz, as a pioneer who shaped both the sport and his own identity as a racer. Living up to the legacy of his idol and cementing his name in MTB history has become the ultimate goal for Super Bruni.

The 2025 season delivered one of the closest title battles of Bruni’s career. Despite entering the final rounds with momentum and experience on his side, he was ultimately edged out by 21-year-old Jackson Goldstone, who delivered a breakout season. Goldstone claimed both the Overall World Cup and the World Championships at Mont-Sainte-Anne, becoming the first Canadian to secure the rare double. For Bruni, it meant missing his chance—at least for now—to equal the five-time Overall record held by Vouilloz and Gwin.
