Summer at the Off-Grid Norwegian homestead | Sheep, Trees and daily farm life

Early Summer on Our Off-Grid Farm / homestead in Norway | Daily Work, hilling the potatos, leaf for sheep, fencing ++ | Fireweed & Butherd Eggs

Summer has finally arrived in our little corner of off-grid Norway, and the land is bursting with life. With warmer nights, everything is suddenly growing fast, which means it’s time for daily weeding. One to two hours each day gives us plenty of fresh greens for the hens, ducks, pigs, donkey, and sheep.

In this video, we also hill the potatoes, continue the fencing project from the last episode, and welcome the sheep into a brand new pasture once the work is dont, always a joy to watch.

The camera joins us for "lauving", the traditional harvesting of leafy tree branches to feed the sheep, and we show how we actively manage pollarded trees as part of our sheep care.

All our musk ducks are sitting on nests now, but no ducklings yet in this episode. In the kitchen, my husband prepares a beautiful dish: freshly baked baguette from the wood stove, topped with butherd eggs and crispy fireweed shoots. Simple food, rich in flavour.

Our old white shepherd dog, Akita, stays close by as always, while birdsong, buzzing insects, and summer flowers fill the air around us.
