There’s a strange building in the hills at the edge of town. People nicknamed it The Cube but The Authority will never tell us what it actually is. My friend Jether thinks it’s where they store our memories, the ones taken from us when we go to work at the Station. I don’t know. Why would they want to keep them? Do they study them? Aren’t we just working in a factory or something? Nilan and his friends tried to go to The Cube once. They said they experienced hallucinations, like flashbacks, that got stronger the closer they got. Eventually peaking at a dizzying blackout, capture by The Authority’s drones, and waking up back in their houses. Nilan and his friends also make up stories to mess with people they don’t like. They think it’s funny. But they didn’t laugh when they told us about The Cube.
