Secure Amateur Radio Comms, On A Budget & Made Easy! Ham radio data burst emergency communications
Published at : 23 Dec 2025
This video is an introduction to secure radio communications using data bursts. You can get on the air with an inexpensive handheld radio like a Baofeng or Quansheng, a tablet that you already own or can buy on a budget, an APRS cable, and a few optional accessories.
We'll take our knowledge of COMSEC and SIGINT into the field with a practical application of hoisting an antenna and sending a SALUTE report using both Rattlegram and Andflmsg.
Using data bursts is a great way to have more secure comms for SHTF while being capable of using forms for data and interoperability with emergency communications such as ARES.
