Preparing for -50°F on Our Remote Alaskan Homestead | Cabin Build, Firewood & Winter Machines

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

The start of winter preparations, a little late this year but rolling along! With hunting, launching the fish wheel, foraging and cabin building we have been set back on firewood- a crucial winter prep. Wood is our main source of heat, and once the snow hits hauling it to the cabin will be tough.

We also finished sinking all the cabin posts, and checked up on the snowmachine; We plan on doing winter hunting, trapping and fur work this year in addition to cabin building over the long winter months.

Moose + home grown potatoes + lacto fermented beets for dinner over the fire and a sea salted cajeta hot chocolate to cap the day working in the cold!

Thank you for following our life on the last frontier!
