Origami Long Hinged Box Tutorial - DIY - Paper Kawaii
Published at : 23 Dec 2025
Learn how to make a hinged origami box with 1 sheet of paper! This origami treasure chest box doesn't require measuring/rulers or glue. Great as a gift box or store jewellery, makeup or stationary!
The inner box is just a simple box, maybe traditional which was thought up on the spot actually. It helps the box to be a little more sturdy if your paper is thin. I would recommend using thicker paper. Just make sure the fold at 3:32 is loose and maybe loosen the fold after that too.

Outer (hinged) box: ▸ 1 sheet of rectangular paper
Optional inner box: ▸ 1 sheet of rectangular paper (same size)
▸ Trimming tool (or you can also just tear the paper)
Paper size used: A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) Final model size: 10.5 x 5.5 x 2.5 cm
⚠️ You don't need to use such a long rectangle, you could start with square paper and just trim a few cm off of one edge to make it rectangular.
The reason the paper needs to be a rectangle is because the section for the lid needs to be a tiny bit bigger than the lower box section, so that it fits. If we used a complete square, the lid would never close!
