My solar concentrators after 4 years of operation
Published at : 23 Dec 2025
I built this solar station a few years ago for space heating of this house in winter and for heating water of this pool in summer. The first row was built 6 years ago, and then, after 2 years, I built the second row.
This video will describe this reflective wall, and it can be used to focus solar radiation onto similar receivers that are fixed on it. This is the second example, and here we see the receiver that is fixed on the ground, and not on this reflective wall, which focuses the solar radiation onto the receiver. This is the third example where this receiver is located under this reflective wall, and the radiation from the sun moves here.
So, we may have noticed that a reflective wall is the basis of a large class of devices which are designed to heat water or air with solar energy. This is a list of materials for one section of my reflective wall with more than 3 square meters of mirrors, and we can calculate that it is about 5 dollars per square meter of mirrors, and it is almost a hundred times cheaper than these reflective walls of a large solar power plant, where its expensive reflective walls must constantly change their vertical angle according to the movements of the sun across the sky. Similar changes of the vertical angle are unnecessary for my cheap reflective walls because they are located along this West-East line, and my previous video showed how solar radiation from their absolutely motionless mirrors is focused onto the receiver from morning to evening.
The rest of this video was made 2 years ago, and I plan to make another video on the same topic in a year when I will show you all drawbacks and "weak points" of the design of my cheap reflective walls after 7 years of their operation.
Now you will see the design of these reflective walls of my solar station, and above all, I will draw your attention to their disadvantages which were discovered during 4 years of their technical testing, because if we overcome the disadvantages of their design, we have a cheap reflective wall with a long lifespan and low operating costs. Each reflective wall of my solar station consists of these nine sections. Each section consists of the following five parts: mirrors, platforms for installation of the mirrors, wooden stakes for fixing the reflective wall on the ground, a lever, and this device is the fifth part of our reflective wall.
