We’re back with Part 2 of rebuilding the milling and drilling quill feed attachment, and it’s time to get stuck into making the parts that bring this vintage tool back to life. In this video, Kurtis takes on the challenge of machining two new drive dogs, a draw bar bolt, and a custom handle – all made from scratch in our workshop. There’s plenty of action on the lathe with drilling, boring and thread cutting, including turning a 450mm-long shaft down to just 16mm without a following steady. It’s not ideal, but we made it work. We also have plenty of work to do on the milling machine including drilling & tapping, milling a hex, and we even tilt the head to complete making the handle. And for a rare treat – Kurtis dusts off the TIG welder for a neat little tig welding job you won’t want to miss! With the new parts now complete, we’re one step closer to finishing this quill feed attachment rebuild for the Zayer. Don’t forget to subscribe and stay tuned for Part 3, where we’ll continue bringing this vintage part back to life.
