LONG-RANGE WiFi with HaLow - Trying Out 802.11AH

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

Today I'm taking a look at the often-forgotten WiFi standard - 802.11ah 'HaLow' - which makes use of the 900mhz ISM band to support very long range communication, sacrificing bandwidth.

Since it's just wifi, we have all the same encryption features, and can transport IP natively.

I used a pair of radios from Heltec!

They also sell modules in a variety of embedded form factors, modules, and dev boards!
