Just a heads-up — some of the materials in this build are being supplied by partners we already use on most of our jobs. They’re backing us on this project, which means we get to show you the process without cutting corners — appreciate the support.

https://nzbuilder.co.nz/Building-InfoLandscaping is usually the last thing people think about when building a home — but on a steep site like ours, it’s one of the most important. We started this project with big landscaping ideas, but as the earthworks rolled on, it became clear not everything was possible. So, the plan has changed.
In this episode of That Build Up There, we reveal the final landscaping plan and lock in a huge milestone: naming the house.
Here’s what we cover step by step:
The original landscaping vision vs the final, detailed plan.
Why we had to change once the siteworks started.
How the entryway, lighting, and grounding zones have been refined.
The tiny home + glasshouse plan — and the challenges finding suppliers.
Why naming the house makes it feel like home already (and the story behind the name).
Get landscaping wrong, and you waste time, money, and end up with a site that doesn’t work with your home. Get it right, and it ties everything together — from the decks and retaining walls to the plantings that will grow for decades.
