I refurbished another vintage TAIYO remote control car from the 1980s — this one was sold through Sears and modeled after a Corvette!
It only needed a little TLC: a good cleaning and new battery terminals after years of corrosion from old batteries.
What really makes these TAIYO cars fascinating is their unique solenoid steering system. Each front wheel has its own solenoid that changes the drag on one side, making the car turn without any traditional steering mechanism! It’s such a clever design, and I’ve never seen another RC work quite like it.
In this video, I’ll show the restoration process, explain how that steering works, and run it again after all these years!
