A special focus has been given to safety. With systematic efforts, scientific root cause analysis, reliability analysis, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and condition-based maintenance, new practices have been introduced. The results have been significantly positive.
* Today, with nearly 25,000 trains running daily across the network, asset failures have reduced to less than 2%, a remarkable improvement over the past.
* Consequential accidents, which averaged 171 annually between 2004 and 2014, have reduced by 90%.
* Railway punctuality has touched 80% overall, with 25 divisions achieving more than 90% punctuality.
* Indian Railways have now reached better punctuality than several European networks, yet under the constant guidance of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the effort continues for even higher performance.
