I gave my TV a GLOWUP with a DIY LED Ambilight backlight | Philips, Govee, Nanoleaf alternative

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

Using a Raspberry Pi and Hyperion Hyperbian, as well as a capture card, HDMI splitter and an LED strip, I was able to light up the perimeter of the TV, replicating the colours on the screen in real time and essentially extending the edges. The results in the video don’t do justice on how amazing it looks in person.
This was a fairly easy, fun, and straightforward DIY project that didn't take too long or cost too much to do.
