00:00 Tying A Standard Bow Tie Introduction

We say standard bow tie because there are other types of bow ties such as the single-ended one.

00:20 1. Lay the bow flat

Star by laying the bow tie around your neck and checking the length is correct on each side, like so.

00:39 2. Cross the ends

The long end goes over the short end. Put the end that's on top over your dominant shoulder.

00:52 3. Form the first loop

Bring the other end up to make the first loop in the shape of the bow.

01:11 4. Bring the other side down

Now, bring the end on your shoulder over the front of the first loop.

01:19 5. Clasp the loop ends

Hold together the two ends of the loop, trapping the end that's hanging loosely.

01:28 6. Locate the hole

You should have created a hole at the back of the first loop, which you can locate for the next step.

01:37 7. Fold & push the other end through

Now push the end that's hanging loosely up and through the hole, folding it in the bow shape as you do so.

01:56 8. Tighten the bow

Tighten the bow by pulling on the opposite ends, loop and loop together, flat end and flat end together.

02:20 9. Fold down your collar

Unless you're wearing a standing or wing collar, you can now fold your collar back down and neaten the bow.
