Mark and I go all out and attempt to live like real 1800s gold prospectors — no modern gear, no shortcuts, and no comforts.
Using an old-style rocker box, basic hand tools, and open-fire cooking, we test whether the methods that built the Australian goldfields could still work today.
We sleep rough, cook the way the old-timers did, and push through the physical and mental toll that came with chasing gold in the bush.
Some miners struck it rich.
Most walked away with nothing.
So the question is simple — could two modern men actually survive the gold rush… or would it break us?
This isn’t glamour.
This isn’t easy.
This is the raw reality of old-time prospecting.
👉 Watch to the end to see if the gold was worth it.

A huge thank you to the Gympie Museum for generously loaning the original rocker box used in this video. Preserving and sharing Australia’s gold rush history makes projects like this possible.
