Fins And Twins - 1957 Dodge Coronet 361 Dual Quad Big Block Assembly, Details, Install, Much More

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

This is my 1957 Dodge Coronet Lancer hardtop project car. Though the "big block" B/RB engine family didn't hit the scene until 1958, the previous owner of this fine automobile had been planning to install one between the fenders anyway. I think this is a great idea - but the "rebuilt" 383 that came with the car turned out to not be worth using. In previous episodes, Allan and I dug this random 361 I've been hoarding for years out of a shed, test fit it in the car for science, and then tore it down to find what horrors lurked inside. Remarkably, despite having been stored with little regard for its safety over the years, the little 361 turned out to be in fine shape. So today, we're going to give this engine a budget cleanup and re-seal, install a fresh top end with an eye toward making some extra power, dress it with a factory dual quad intake manifold, and hit it with some glorious silver engine paint - before finally dropping it back in the car for good. Let's dig in.
