In the summer of 2022, after our kids fell in love with Hungarian thermal baths the year before, we embarked on a five-day cycling trip. Our destination: a thermal spa in Lipót near the Slovakian border. Starting in Hodonín, we covered over 200 kilometers in five days, a challenge for the kids accustomed to shorter recumbent rides only. With pee breaks, snacks, and playground stops, progress was slower than expected. Our initial plan for daily swimming was adjusted to ensure the last day was dedicated to water fun.
Aged 11 and 7, Julie rode a modified AZUB Origami recumbent, while Janek used a discontinued AZUB ECO 16. Eliska and I rode AZUB Mini. I pulled a Burley Nomad trailer, sparing the kids from carrying panniers. Our route favored bike paths and side roads, steering clear of traffic, though some trails posed challenges. Austria presented unavoidable steep climbs, which the kids admirably conquered, even on gravel.
On the final day, we navigated a unique train situation, successfully returning home, concluding our memorable family recumbent adventure.
