Me and Jay dove into planting a 3-acre alfalfa hayfield – renting a tractor, tiller, and mower, mowing it down, tilling it up, seeding, and fertilizing, all as total rookies. 19 days later? It’s a weed jungle – shatter cane and broadleaves took over, the alfalfa couldn’t keep up. We share the raw fails: tilling and planting same day woke up dormant seeds, low soil pH needed 3,000 lbs of lime per acre, and I didn’t have time to manage it. It’s a money sink, but here’s the lessons – check soil first, avoid same-day till/plant, and stay on top of weeds. Sometimes you gotta show the flops to help others avoid 'em!
