DIY XL Plasma cutter build Part 4 first cut
Published at : 23 Dec 2025
Finally I got my ass into gear and put together the video of the plasma cutters first cuts.
What will you see in todays Video?
I show the custom water pan. Before you ask it cost $320.
I install the toothed slats. Not overly happy with the support angles as I made them with 4mm slots, but the slats are 3mm. SO they move around a lot. Its something I will fix up in the near future.
I fill the pan, approx 50L of water and I use 2L of Nulon engine coolant to stop the rust.
I do a demo cut with no plasma turned on.
I find I have some issues wit the probing which turned out to the the adjuster bolts on the Z axis. Fixed that up. Probing worked OK.
Attempted a trial cut, but found out that my small plasma cutter CIG weld easy cut 35 wont cut the 6mm plate with its 0.8mm tip.
I trial cuts on 1mm plate and success.
It was a happy moment seeing it cut for the first time. I did forget the earth clamp once. Dumbo.
Hit me up if you have any questions.
Enjoy the video, Sully......
