A delete can void warranty not only on emissions components, but also on PCM/ECM systems that have been tuned to support the delete. That matters when a dealer needs to flash software for new parts, recalls, or updates that rely on factory programming. At that point, they may simply refuse the work.
There’s also the repair access problem. If a dealer has to remove the exhaust to do a repair, reinstalling a non-compliant deleted exhaust puts them in a bad spot. They can’t warranty it, and reinstalling something that doesn’t meet compliance is a risk many shops won’t take. That alone can stop repairs cold.
Recalls are another gray area. If a recall involves sensors, exhaust components, turbos, engine management, or even engine or transmission systems, a delete can be enough for a dealer to push back or reject the work entirely.
Long term, there’s a bigger risk people don’t talk about: market shrinkage. Dealers may refuse deleted trucks on trade, wholesalers may avoid them, and manufacturers could eventually tighten branding or title disclosures. There will always be buyers — but when you shrink the pool of people willing to take on the risk, resale value usually drops.
Deletes can make sense for some people. Just understand the full trade-offs before you do it.
