Crown King Bites Back | Obstacles, Recoveries, and Hard Lessons
Published at : 23 Dec 2025
Arizona Carnage on the Back Way to Crown King - The Back Way to Crown King climbs more than 5,000 feet from the desert near Lake Pleasant into the Bradshaw Mountains, winding through foothills, narrow shelf roads, and steep, rocky terrain before reaching the historic mining town of Crown King.
On this run, our group set out to take our time, enjoy the day, and challenge ourselves on the obstacles along the way. What followed was a reminder that Crown King doesn’t give anything away easily. Fun lines turned technical, recoveries became necessary, and the trail delivered real consequences — crunched Jeeps, bent metal, and even snapped winch lines.
This wasn’t about rushing or proving anything. It was about problem-solving on the trail, working as a group, and adapting when things didn’t go as planned. Crown King has a way of wearing drivers down over the course of a long day, and most of the lessons come not from one obstacle, but from the accumulation of small decisions.
If you’re planning to run the Back Way to Crown King, this video offers an honest look at what the trail can demand — and why patience, communication, and preparation matter just as much as vehicle capability.
