Caudabe Sheath iPhone 17 Review - Why I Keep Coming Back

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

The Caudabe Sheath has been one of my go-to cases for years. The real question going into this review wasn’t whether I liked it or not, it was whether it would still hold up once I ran it through my new scoring system and drop tests. After 30 drops, the answer is pretty clear.

Caudabe Sheath Review

-Caudabe has come a long way
-I started buying their cases for the iPhone 6’s and back then
-they were cheap feeling TPU sleeves
-the last few versions of the case is something else

-the finish on the Sheath is by far one of the best
-perfect amount of bumpiness but not overly aggressive

-the finish has been improved and doesn’t seem to show scratches as easily
-BUT MagSafe accessories are still going to leave a noticeable mark on the finish
-i do wish Caudabe added feet at the bottom of the case so that the finish doesn’t wear along the bottom edge

-like the paragon, the sheath has a covered camera area with the same finish
-iPhone sits on a bed of luxurious microfiber
-the inside edge, like the Paragon is ribbed for the iPhone’s drop pleasure

-biggest different in the shape of the Sheath vs the Paragon is the lack of taper
-the Sheath is flat across the whole edge

-grip on this case is amazing
-doesn’t relie on a tacky finish
-doesn’t feel sticky with balmy hands
-it just works
-going to increase the weight of a pro Max iPhone by 55g
-going to bulk up the iPhone by 60%
-heavier than average by less bulky than average
-weird combination
-the initial impact for a corner drop? 8.238N
-19% below average
-rotation rate was better by 26%
-settling rate was better by 16%
-overall force was better by 9%
-so these numbers were slightly better than the Paragon

-for face first drops
-initial impact was 31% below average
-settling rate was 47% below average
-total force was 20% below average

-this was basically the opposite of the Paragon
-again, I’m guessing the lack of a taper meant the drop forces were spread out though the case better

-for the camera lump
-it’s covered in thick TPU
-so the intial impact was 27% lower
-it was slower to settle by 52%
-BUT the total force was 22% below average

-overall, for the size and bulk of this case, this is a tank
-at 3ft, this thing out performs other cases that look “tougher”
-like the Paragon, the Sheath has an odd ratio
-of having a thicker back vs. Corners
-corners do have air pockets as well
-at it’s thinnest, the corners are 1.4mm thick

-case flexes quite a bit despite the thick back
-takes 24N to bend 8mm, that’s 15% below average
-and the force required to pop an corner off is quite average at 27N (average is 25N)
-MagSafe is where Caudabe dropped the ball
-to pull things off took 7.2N
-to push took 8.6
-that’s 20% below average
-MagSafe wallets and grips are going to be ok
-MagSafe car mounts are really iffy
-buttons are the same as the paragon
-rounded, metallic and flow-thru
-camera controls button is the same
-has the nice metallic accent around the case
