Big Sugar Gravel 2025 - RAW HIGHLIGHTS

Big Sugar Gravel lived up to all they hype and more!!

Due to severe weather, they had to shorten us down from the planned 100 mile race to the 50 mile course at the last minute. This caused a bit of extra traffic problems as the race had a different starting route, and they were not quite as prepared for controlling traffic on this alternative.

While it was quite a gnarly/scary experience as a racer, It's not unique to just this race and is something we elite racers deal with on a regular basis. The alternative to taking the risk is to not be competitive for a result, and without results we are not able to make gravel privateering work. I will note, even with all the chaos, they did have many intersections closed off and did a better job than many other races with protecting us! Overall, safety is just an are that needs work and I hope continues to progress!

Aside from that, Bis Sugar is an amazing race and increadibly challenging race course with tight, techniqual roads, off camber downhill corners, and punchy climbs. I am already looking forward to coming back for another go again next year!!
