Apple Dumplings
Ingredients
1 pie crust
6 medium apples peeled and cored (I prefer Cortlands or Northern Spy)
4 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup brown sugar1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
Brown Sugar Syrup
¾ cup packed brown sugar
⅓ cup salted butter 2 cups water 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 °F. Grease a 9x13 pan
Combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg.
On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry into a large rectangle. Cut into 6 square pieces
Place a prepared apple on each pie crust square with the cored opening facing upward.
Fill cored apples with butter and brown sugar mixture
Seal dumplings by wetting the corners of the pie dough then grab two opposite corners of the pie square.
Place in prepared baking dish.
Mix together the brown sugar, butter, water and cornstarch then bring to a boil. It will thicken slightly.
Pour over dumplings in pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, until the pie crust is golden brown and the apples inside are soft.
Remove from the oven and let sit for 5 minutes.
Serve warm
