3D Printing And Metal Casting Are A Perfect Match

Published at : 23 Dec 2025

My first try at metal casting a tool. Been something ive had an interest in for a very long time and finally had the skills and equipment to give it a try. Far from perfect results but promising nonetheless.

Thankyou to Carvera for sponsoring this video. I am honestly incredibly impressed with the machine and excited that its made me look forward to machining more.

If you are considering purchasing a carvera product using my affiliate link would be much appreciated. It goes a long way to supporting this channel.

Parts:
These parts are for casting and machining. I dont have great guides for the milling since I did every thing in single operations aligned by eye. Very silly I know.

Bushing:
8mm ID bushing 12mm long was used. Requires grease. Bore hole for linear bearing instead for a nicer user experience thats a bit less accurate. These are cheap bushings as well its probably worth buying a nicer one.

Hi my name is chris, I am a (current year - 2000) year old from South Australia. I am passionate about digital fabrication but especially 3D printing and trying to push the boundaries of what can be done with basic materials and tools.

I firmly believe that 3D printing will be the #1 way people start making physical objects in the future. 3D printing is clean, quiet, cheap and rewarding with quick results. Based on that, one of my major interests is exploring 3D printing as a gateway to other more traditional forms of making.

My tool project is designed to explore cheap DIY machine tools that are made more accessible via 3D printing. The goal is to make tools that can be made with minimal skills or tooling, allowing a motivated person to move from a cheap printer to try their hand in other areas.
